Case Study - Airport Security

Polymorph has worked with Alpha-Asd to develop an innovative handheld application for use as an aid to security audits within airports.
Alpha Airports Group Plc is one of the world's biggest independent aviation support companies and provides retail and catering services for airlines and airports.
Advanced Security Design is a specialist engineering company working at the forefront of innovation and design to combat the ever increasing risk of theft, robbery and terrorist attack in industry.
Alpha-Asd, a joint venture of Alpha Airports Group Plc and Advanced Security Design, have collaborated to design and manufacture a new high security tamper evident lock and seal called AirGuard™ for airline flight carts and canisters. The airline industry declares more than 2% of revenue is lost globally each year through missing stock.
Preventing firearms or explosive devices gaining access to aircraft is also of paramount importance in the fight against terrorist attack.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Polymorph. They respond quickly with innovative solutions to every problem we throw at them" - Mr Ian Winter, Alpha-Asd Managing Director
The wider solution involves management of keys to the carts using radio frequency identification (RFID) and via the development of a 'intelligent' locking system for the carts, the recording of the locks activity (unlock, lock, close and open events).
Polymorph were invited to assist with the project and tasked with creating an intuitive application to be used by security personnel to assist with the auditing process which follows the discovery of security 'incidents'.
The solution uses a handheld PC used to download the lock activity via infra-red. The system is capable of producing a report from the information stored within the lock and in turn this can either be viewed on the handheld PC or transmitted to other personnel via email and GPRS.
