Polymorph's Role
Polymorph were originally tasked to provide an information and knowledge management solution to enable sharing of information between shift teams. At each shift change it is imperative that a new shift is quickly and accurately made aware of any issues, alarm overrides or comments from the previous shift – both in terms of safety and production levels but also to facilitate enhanced effective communication to aid teamwork across the shifts.
Customer Comments on the Solution
This system brings our Production Management systems at Wilton into the 21st Century. There are several advantages to using this system over the previous paper based log. Some of these include:
- The facility to automatically carry forward issues that need resolution from one shift to the next. This enables us to get to the important issues quickly after shift change and take advantage of having a single location for logging all progress and ultimate resolution of every issue. Should this issue arise again in the future, the past experience is not lost and is easily referenced to ensure speedy resolution of the issue once more
- Access to this database will be available to everybody in the organisation. This ensures that everybody is reading the same script and are aware of the issues on the plant as told in the words of the Production Manager who logged it (as opposed to being passed on second / third or even fourth hand with the inevitable variations of interpretation that this may introduce)
- The facility to have a central location for all production related information. Within this database there is a location for each daily production plan (produced by the Supply Chain Team) and each weekly Maintenance plan (produced by the Engineering / Maintenance Team). Locating these plans on the database ensures that the Production Teams are aware of the daily expectations and hence can prepare for and anticipate the workload and priorities for that day.
These are merely some of the many features of this that will allow us to continue to improve our production management activities.
